MRS Excellence Awards 2023 Lunch and Winners

The MRS Excellence Awards lunch, held on Friday, June 9th at Smith & Wollensky in London, was a remarkable event that honoured outstanding contributions to the field of market research. Foreign Tongues is the Principal Sponsor of this prestigious occasion.
With over 100 attendees, the event provided an excellent opportunity for networking and recognising the remarkable individuals who have made significant contributions to market research. Among the highlights were the induction of new fellows into the MRS, including Tim Barber, Michael Brown, Lucy Davison, Christian Dubreuil, Babita Earle, Chloe Fowler, Crawford Hollingworth, Sam Knowles and Leanne Tomasevic.

2023 Excellence Awards Winners
The event also presented the winners of the 2023 Excellence Awards, showcasing exemplary achievements in various categories. Here are the notable winners:
- Rhiannon Long received the MRS Advanced Certificate in Market & Social Research Practice Award, sponsored by The Marketors’ Trust. Rhiannon, who works in Mind’s digital engagement team, is passionate about utilising user research to enhance people’s digital experiences, particularly focusing on improving accessibility.
- MRS Annual Conference 2023 Audience Award, sponsored by The New Fieldwork Company was awarded to Viki Cooke, Fraser Hardie, Catherine Hunt and James Sallows for their outstanding presentation titled “Being indispensable to the top table: How can insight help leaders navigate turbulent waters?”
- Shivonne Gates was honoured with the MRS Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Changemaker of the Year award, sponsored by Truth. Shivonne was recognized for her ground-breaking efforts in supporting researchers of colour, transforming the profession and advancing research practices.
- Alex Owens was named the winner of the MRS Special Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Changemaker of the Year award. Alex was acknowledged for championing inclusive work environments, supporting researchers of colour, changing the profession and improving research practices.
- The MRS Silver Medal was bestowed upon John Williams, Nicole Hartnett and Giang Trinh for their exceptional work on “Finding creative drivers of advertising effectiveness with modern data analysis.”
- Steve Phillips was recognised as the MRS Sustainability Changemaker of the Year for his pivotal role as the driving force behind the MRS NetZero Pledge and driving the programme forward by chairing the MRS Sustainability Council.
